Reflection Span 306
In Spanish 306 I expanded my knowledge in Hispanic culture, we read different passages and novels from different writers such as authors from Colombia, Argentina, Mexico, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico and others. By reading passages from different cultures I could understand other cultures than mine. This help me to understand the historical context and perspectives from different ethnicities. I really loved it having to read the assigned readings in this class and the actives that we had to do during our class discussions because in that way we could share our understanding and also to listen other to share their own ideas and what they understood. By the end of the semester we were able to choose a topic that we covered in class to present about it, and my group and I decided to chose "Maldito amor" by Rosario Ferre a Puerto Rican writer. We presented how was the transformation of the Island of Puerto Rico changed after the invasion of US. That historical context was reflected in this novel. For our final paper we had to choose a theme and a writer to write about. I decided to talk about Luisa Valenzuela to analyze how is the domestic violence and discrimination to specific ethnic groups reflected in her stories. I choose two of her works to analyze and compare them, I found that she repeats the same themes but in different situation, but her main point was to point out the domestic violence against women and how also these women are also affected by racial discrimination.
