MLOs for the Spanish Language & Hispanic Cultures major MLO 2: LINGUISTICS The student develops their knowledge of fundamental concepts in the fields of Hispanic and Applied Linguistics, and is able to apply them in the completion of research papers and data-driven research studies pertaining to current issues in these areas The student completes four courses related to the Spanish language and Hispanic and/or Applied Linguistics. These courses deal with: the history of Spanish, advanced grammar, Spanish-English translation, a general introduction to Spanish linguistics and second language acquisition, Spanish for professional application (medical, legal, etc. spheres), composition and conversation, and bilingualism. Courses: SPAN 313 , SPAN 345, SPAN 303, & Span 315 In 345 I learned the aspects of bilingualism, at the beginning I did not know why I was switching between English and Spanish and there I learned that it is called code-switching. It helped me to understand the aspects of both languages. In Spanish 313 I learned about the phonetics, phonology, syntax. I also learned how Spanish is spoken differently in different societies. In Span 303 I learned the differences between subjunctive and indicative. I also learned how to write grammatically correct in Spanish. In Span 315 I learned how to translate texts from Spanish to English and vice versa. I learned about the different ways and theories to translate papers.
