Reflection SPAN 345
In Spanish 345 we learn about Bilingualism and their concepts. For example, before taking this class I did not why I was switching between English and Spanish, I could not stay in one language when I talked to people that I knew they were able to understand both languages. I started a conversation in English and I finish it in Spanish. Then, Dr. Oliva explained us that it is called "code-switching" and people who speaks both language unconsciously change from one language to other. We know this as Spanglish is very common in the Latino Community and know has been more acceptable in our community. We also learned about the different dialect in Latin America. For my final presentation, my team and I presente "Purepecha or Tarasco" a dialect that is speak it in my state which is in Michoacan, Mexico. Before doing my research I did not anything about it. I knew about that it was called purepecha but not that it is also named Tarasco. I understood many things about my own culture, about my state and I felt so proud to be Michoacana since I learned that the Tabasco group was the only group that could not be conquered by the Aztecs and Mexicas. After, the research I could understand the meaning of some song that I used to listen and that identify the michoacanos. But not only I learned about the dialect that I presented, but I also learned about the dialect that my classmates presented and that we sometimes we do not appreciate this dialect when they had too much history on them. Taking this class helped us to learn and understand the history and why is that we speak Spanish, and why is that the dialects are disappearing.
