MLOs for the Spanish Language & Hispanic Cultures major MLO 1: LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY Students are able to communicate effectively in Spanish in three modes: interpersonal, interpretive, and presentational, and in a culturally appropriate manner in a variety of social and professional settings and circumstances at the Advanced Low level of language proficiency, according to ACTFL Guidelines. In the Core requirements, SLHC majors complete two required language classes (Spanish 301 plus one other from SPAN 302; SPAN 303; SPAN305; SPAN 313; SPAN 315, SPAN 345). In addition, students’ performance and proficiency in the target language is developed through their enrollment and active participation in those courses in the program that are taught in Spanish. Note: Final Language Proficiency is demonstrated via the STAMP Proficiency Exam in WLC 400: WLC Major Capstone Courses completed: Span 301 & Span 304 In Span 301 I learned how to write a Spanish Paper and I developed my Spanish speaking skills. In this class I had to read and then we had group discussions where I had the opportunity not only to practice our speaking but also to learn to listen. In Span 304 I learned how to analyze Hispanic literacy text and I could practice Spanish during the class discussions and in my presentation. Also, I was able to practice my reading and writing skills.
