I was born in Michoacan, Mexico. I lived there most of my life, I completed Middle School in Mexico. I remember always telling my father that I wanted to come to California to attend High School and continue with my education. Unfortunately, that was not possible at that time. At the age of seventeen my dream came true, I had the opportunity to attend High School, but it was very hard because I did not speak English and it was my main barrier to succeed in school, but that did not stop me I kept fighting for my dream and I knew that I was a hard person that helped me to completed High School in two years.
After graduating from High School,I had to make a hard decision between going to a community college or going to a 4-year university, my family suggested me to attend college first to practice more my English. In the other hand, my teacher were pushing me to go to University because they believed I was ready for it. I opt to go to College while I was there I assimilated that I had taken the right decision. Then, I chose Spanish as my major because it was my first language and I thought that it was going to be easy. But, after taking a test in my first class and I got a C, I understood that I did not know Spanish at all. I knew how to speak it, but I was not doing it in the right way. I took couple of courses that helped me to learn more and I found it interesting. Then, I graduated from College and I decided to transfer to California State University Monterey Bay to keep with my education.
I registered for Spanish courses and I met my Spanish professors that later they became my inspiration to succeed in life and to keep with my career. I have learned a lot from them. Dr. Fernandez, Dr. Oliva, Dr. Urioste, Dr. Gomez have been great role models for me. They have been always there when I needed them. I feel very lucky to have them as my professors and as my advisors. I want to thank them for guiding me throughout this educational journey.
Right now I'm working as a tutor for migrant students where I am getting experience to teach in a classroom. I have growth not only as a professional but also as a person. I have learned the importance of being a role model for someone and that we must love our career to be able to help students and enjoy every minute in the classroom. However, after graduating I want to work with High Students. I know that I still need to learn more to be a good and a professional teacher.
